ROXAS CITY, Capiz — This city reported five deaths due to COVID-19 on June 5, 2021, the highest death toll in a day so far.
Based on the data released by the City Health Office, the confirmed deaths include a 52-year-old male government worker and resident of Brgy. Tiza; a 43-year-old male from Brgy. Tanza; a 35-year-old male from Brgy. Cagay; a 60-year-old male from Brgy. XI; and 69-year-old female barangay frontliner from Lawaan.
The data also showed that 26 new active cases were added to the tally of cases and 9 recoveries.
At present, the city has 288 active cases, 1,138 recoveries, 68 deaths for a total of 1,494 confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, the remains of former Pilar, Capiz mayor Gideon “Ike” Patricio was cremated Friday night after he died while being treated for COVID in a hospital here.
Provincial Councilors League of the Philippines (PCL) Capiz chapter president Mitch Patricio confirmed via Facebook the death of his father.
The older Patricio was infected with COVID-19 two weeks ago and was confined in a private hospital here.
He ran for re-election in 2019 but lost to Mayor Arnold Perez.
