ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Local officials in Capiz are worried about the continued upsurge in cases of coronavirus disease 20219 (COVID-19).
Governor Esteban Evan Nonoy Contreras said the public should be extra cautious as cases continue to rise daily.
Data released from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) indicated that the province has 136 active cases as of April 16, 2021.
The following areas with the most number of active cases are:
Roxas City – 63
President Roxas – 16
Pontevedra – 14
Panitan – 8
Pilar – 7
Cuartero – 5
Sigma – 5
Maayon – 4
Panay -4
Dao – 2
Dumarao – 2
Ivisan – 2
Mambusao – 2
Tapaz -2
Dumalag, Jamindan and Sapian are considered COVID-free as of now.
At present, the province has 1,498 confirmed cases (1,293 recoveries and 69 deaths).
Meanwhile, an owner of a restaurant at the People’s Park in Barangay Baybay here and resident of Victoria Road died Thursday from COVID-19.
Punong Barangay Reynaldo Magallanes of Baybay said that aside from the restaurant owner, his 57-year-old wife and 37-year-old son were also positive.
Magallanes said the son was infected after traveling to Boracay. They tested positive on April 13.
The couple was immediately taken to the hospital but the husband died while being treated.
The family and employees of the restaurant are under quarantine.
The restaurant and the food carts of the family temporarily stopped operations.
