BACOLOD City – Dr. Hector Gayares, medical deputy of the Emergency Operations Center of the city government here, said that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is real and should not be taken lightly despite the downtrend in cases.
Gayares said people should not be complacent even as he assured the public that 90 percent of those who were infected in Bacolod City have recovered.
He also said that with the establishment of the EOC, COVID-19 cases in Bacolod City have gone down in the past two weeks.
In a virtual presentation, Gayares showed data on the COVID-19 situation in Bacolod which revealed that from 40 cases in August, the number of COVID patients rose to 64 in September.
The data also showed two deaths per day compared to March to July when the number of deaths was in single digits.
Gayares also advised persons who manifest flu-like symptoms not to hesitate to seek consultation at the Bacolod Respiratory Outpatient Center inside the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports Center where consultation and swab testing are provided for free.
He said some COVID-19 survivors took the necessary precaution but were still infected.
“So we should not let our guard down,” he added.
