Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Iloilo City significantly dropped by 75 percent in November 2020, based on the data from the Iloilo City COVID-19 team.
From Nov 1-9, Iloilo City only recorded 135 cases of COVID-19, 75% lower compared to 535 cases in Oct 1-9.
On Monday, the city only recorded seven cases wherein one is from the province of Antique while the other case is a returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW).
The average daily COVID-19 cases in the city also dropped to 15 cases per day as of first week of November.
Meanwhile, recovery rate in the city is at 95 percent as of Nov 9.
Out of the 4,021 total Covid-19 cases, 3,804 have recovered while 133 remain active (3%) and 84 have died (2%).
Despite the significant drop of COVID-19 cases in the city, Mayor Jerry Treñas appealed to the public to not be complacent and strictly practice the health protocol, especially to the young adults who are at a high risk of infection, based on the RACI survey.
“Ga-apelar gid ako tani nga nakit-an naton sa survey sang RACI, while iban naintindihan nila kon ano ang minimum health protocols, kalabanan naga-isip nga para lang ini sa minors and seniors amo na ga-apelar gid kita sa aton tanan nga pumuluyo nga siguraduhon nila nga tanan gasunod health protocols especially sa mga households nga may mga elderly,” he said in the Iloilo City government’s Uswag Patrol program on Tuesday.
Based on the survey sponsored by the mayor, majority of the respondents in the city believe that they are not prone to Covid-19 with a large number believing that only persons who are over 60 years old and children who are not yet five years old are susceptible to Covid-19.
Moreover, the survey revealed that only a small majority use face masks all the time in presence of old people and less than 50 percent use face masks all the time in the presence of babies. (ERS)
