COVID-19 ALERT: Sick on Valentine’s Day? Avoid crowded places

The Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD)-6 appealed to the public to practice precautionary measures this Valentine’s Day as the Coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19) continues to pose a threat.

It is better to avoid crowded places or huge events this Valentine’s Day especially if one is suffering from fever or colds, Sofia Pulmones, DOH- CHD 6 Local Health Support Division chief, said on Wednesday.

According to Pulmones, people who feel unwell should practice “social distancing”.

“Social distancing kon nagahilanat, or ubo kag indi ka na lang magkadto sa crowded spaces,” she added.

If one cannot avoid public or crowded places, Pulmones suggested wearing a mask.

While the region remains free from Covid-19, Ilonggos should still follow precautionary measures such as frequent hand washing and proper cough etiquette.

Recently, the DOH Central Office issued an advisory urging the public to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees to contain the potential spread of COVID-19.

“To further minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19, the public is advised to avoid crowded places and continue to practice self-protection measures,” the advisory said.

Meanwhile, DOH-CHD 6 also reiterated the ABC approach or (Abstinence, Be faithful, and Correct and consistent use of condoms) this Valentine’s Day.

“First is abstinence, kon pwede ma-abstain sa sexual relationship. Kon indi ma-abstain, be faithful. When we say faithful dapat exclusive partner and lastly correct and consistent use of condoms,” DOH Regional Director Dr. Marlyn Convocar explained.
