A couple from Hamtic, Antique, was shot dead inside their home on the evening of June 24.
Angelita, 50, and her live-in partner Jonathan, 51, were sitting in the lanai of their home in Barangay Pili 1-2-3, Hamtic, when an unidentified assailant arrived.
The couple was reportedly watching a video on a mobile phone and did not immediately notice the intruder.
Without warning, the gunman opened fire on them multiple times.
Angelita sustained pellet wounds to her chest and face, while Jonathan was shot in the head and body.
Both were believed to have died at the scene.
However, personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Hamtic still rushed them to Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose, where they were declared dead on arrival.
The Antique Provincial Police Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
Col. Leah Rose Peña, Antique police chief, said they are looking into the couple’s background to determine if someone may have had a motive to kill them.
The victims, both charcoal makers, were with Jonathan’s sibling at the time of the attack.
However, the sibling claimed he neither saw nor heard anything.
Peña noted that the village is in a mountainous area, requiring police to travel five kilometers by vehicle and another five kilometers on foot to reach the crime scene.
