ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A husband and his wife were arrested Thursday morning at Barangay Sta. Cruz, Ivisan, Capiz for estafa charges.
Mary Joy Altamia Ong and husband Gerard Villasoto Ong, both of Barangay Ilaya-Ivisan, Ivisan, Capiz, did not resist when police served the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Esperanza Isabel Poco-Deslate of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 19 on May 27, 2019.
The court recommended a P180,000 bail to each of the couple for their temporary liberty.
The suspects were charged for estafa after the checks they issued to Medin Frias bounced for lack of funds, a violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. 22 or the Anti-Bouncing Checks Law.
Frias said that the couple, who claimed to be a subcontractor of NJ Construction Supply, bought on credit crude oil and gasoline amounting to P1.2 million. The couple then issued several checks but all of them bounced for insufficient funds.
Prior to their arrest, Police Captain Rene Hare, Ivisan police chief, said six persons went to the police station and filed similar complaints against the couple.
