BACOLOD City – A couple was killed after a truck collided with their motorcycle at Purok Halimbawa, Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Police identified one of the victims as Antomark Cacho, 24, of Barangay Tapi, while the name of his 17-year-old girlfriend was withheld.
Police Captain Joelan Vinson, deputy chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the motorcycle driven by Cacho was on its way to the city proper from Barangay Tapi when a truck overlapped into their lane, causing a head-on collision.
Vinson said the 35-year-old truck driver was on his way home after unloading his cargo in Victorias City when the accident happened.
Vinson said the truck driver failed to notice the approaching motorcycle because it was covered by another truck.
“Possible ma overtake siya (truck driver) siguro, pero wala niya makita ang motor na gapadulong,” he added.
The victims were not wearing helmets and suffered severe injuries, according to Vinson.
Cacho was declared dead in a hospital, while his girlfriend passed away at the hospital hours later, Vinson said.
Vinson said the truck driver was released from police custody on Thursday night, following a settlement with the victims’ families.
