Couple dead, ten others injured in road mishaps

BACOLOD City – A couple died while 10 others were injured in separate road accidents here and in Murcia, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

In Murcia town, Arnel Calalas, 27 and his live-in-partner Jessa Laranio, 22 died while their son was injured after they hit a truck parked at Hacienda Manuel Kho, Barangay Pandanon.

Investigation showed that the victims were riding a motorcycle driven by Calalas on their way home when they crashed into the rear part of the truck driven by 19-year-old Hans Uyco of Don Salvador Benedicto town.

The victims were taken to Murcia health unit, but the couple was declared dead on arrival.

Their son, who suffered minor injuries, is now stable, according to the police.

Police said the victims were not wearing helmets. The driver of the truck voluntarily surrendered to the police.

Meanwhile, nine persons were wounded after two pick-up trucks figured in an accident along Rizal-Lacson Streets.
