A couple instantly died after they got pinned under a six-wheeled wing van.
The incident happened around 7:20 a.m. of Oct 13, 2021 at Barangay Magdalena, Anini-y, Antique,
Police identified the victims as spouses Ricardo Samones, 69, and Maria Lucile Samones, 59, of Barangay San Roque, Anini-y.
The incident occurred when the wing van (license plate FXA-619) lost its balance while navigating a downhill portion before reaching the Magdalena Bridge.
The vehicle flipped on its side to the opposite lane in the middle of the bridge and crushed the couple on a motorcycle.
Rescuers were able to pull out the couple, but the head of the Antique Rescue Team (ART) declared them dead.
The truck driver, Ricky Azuelo, 71, of Barangay Dawis, Ajuy, Iloilo, was immediately arrested.
Based on a report by Major John Paul Guay, Anini-y police chief, the van was loaded with PVC pipes when the incident happened. It was bound for San Jose, Antique from Iloilo City.
Guay said Azuelo will be charged for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide.
