Just how important is dignity to police service?
It’s a great deal, according to Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, Western Visayas police chief.
It’s tantamount to good leadership.
Pamuspusan mentioned dignity in police work during the turnover of command ceremony at the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
Pamuspusan told newly-installed ICPO chief, Police Colonel Eric Dimpal, that he has big shoes to fill given the performance by his predecessor, Police Colonel Martin Defensor, Jr.
Addressing Dampal Pamuspusan added, “I hope you can do as well. I don’t know you but with your background, I hope you can fill the expectation of the regional director and the people of Iloilo City.”
In Police Regional Office (PRO)-6, Pamuspusan said they showed the personnel how to perform their tasks with dignity.
“We started with attitude and behavior. We wanted to carry them with respect by correcting the way they wear their uniform,” he said.
Further, “we wanted to carry themselves with respect by having a very clean and organized office and of course we wanted them to be respected by the way they maintain their given logistics especially their patrol cars and their equipment. With this, they carry themselves with dignity.”
Pamuspusan challenged Dampal that as the ICPO leader, he must carry himself and lead his men with dignity.
“In Iloilo and in PRO-6, we carry ourselves with dignity and we don’t allow just anyone to disrespect any member of PRO-6. We don’t allow anymore anyone slapping the face of a police officer when performing their duties
We don’t allow anyone pointing a gun at any member of PRO-6 because we, as members of PRO-6, we carry our responsibility with respect,” he said.
With this, Pamuspusan said he expected Dampal to carry the said order to the letter.
That, being his first order, the region’s top cop also reminded Dampal to ensure that he would strictly enforce the PNP’s no take policy.
“I want you to have a disciplined unit. And I expect you to take this seriously,” he said.
As his third marching order, Pamupusan told the ICPO force to exert their best efforts in solving the Delfin Britanico murder case.
