Cops Spread Holiday Cheer to Kanlaon Evacuees

BACOLOD CITY — Amid the challenges posed by the Kanlaon volcano eruption, policemen brought holiday cheer to evacuees, especially children, in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, this Christmas season.

Personnel from the La Castellana Municipal Police Station, led by Police Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, organized a Christmas program at the local evacuation center on Dec. 17.

The event aimed to provide much-needed relief to families displaced by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.

Dubbed “Santa Cops,” policemen distributed diapers and clean clothes to children aged 0-2 years.

To brighten spirits, the police team organized games that brought laughter and excitement to the young participants.

The cheerful atmosphere reminded evacuees that even during hardships, moments of joy are possible.

The primary goal of the event was to uplift displaced residents and create positive memories during their temporary stay at the evacuation center.

This initiative highlighted the commitment of the municipal police force to serving and supporting the community, particularly during times of disaster.

Beyond providing aid, the program fostered hope and resilience among families, emphasizing the importance of compassion and solidarity in overcoming adversity.

La Castellana is among the local government units severely affected by the eruptions on Dec. 9 and June 3, which displaced thousands of residents living within four to six kilometers of the volcano.
