BACOLOD City – A 29-year-old man from Barangay Singcang-Airport here was arrested in a check-up point at Barangay Sum-ag for allegedly transporting 200 kilos of hot meat here last Sunday.
Police Lieutenant Jonito Pastrana, head of Police Station 9, said that the suspect told them that the meat was slaughtered in Valladolid, Negros Occidental.
But police found that it was illegally slaughtered upon verification of the City Task Force Botagoy.
The task force ensures that meat offered for sale to the public are healthy and safe for human consumption.
Pastrana said that the suspect had a food pass to travel, but he failed to show documents to prove that the meat underwent the proper procedure for slaughter. He also questioned the allegations of the suspect since the city has a slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan.
The seized meat was turned over to the City Veterinary Office.
Pastrana said the suspect refused to tell which market he was supposed to deliver the meat. The suspect was released after fours hour in police custody.
