BACOLOD City – The Escalante City Police Station in Negros Occidental is investigating the alleged strafing of the vehicle of the incident commander of the city’s coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) task force last Wednesday.
Police Major Gil Despi, city police chief, said the family of 42-year-old Vermont Juvahib was inside their house when two unidentified armed persons on a motorcycle riddled his vehicle with bullets.
No injuries were reported, but Juvahib’s car, which was parked inside the garage, was damaged with four bullet holes.
Police recovered from the scene two empty shells and two bullets of caliber .9mm ammunition.
“It’s possible that it was from a KG9 or an Ingram (machine pistols),” Despi said.
Despi said they have no motive yet on the said attack, adding that the victim had no enemies and had not even reported any threats prior to the incident.
He said it is possible that it was a case of mistaken identity or it was a sort of “tripping.”
He said the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage nearby was not able to help them in identifying the perpetrators.
