BACOLOD City – The Silay Component City Police Station in Negros Occidental has stressed the importance of installing closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, particularly in the upland villages to help them in the anti-criminality campaign.
This, after a sack containing a decomposing body of a man and two other sacks containing human skeletons were discovered at Oyut bridge in Sitio Lantawan, Barangay Guimbala-on on Dec. 30, 2022.
In an interview with DyHB RMN Bacolod, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay City police chief, said the victims may have been killed somewhere else and were later dumped in the said area.
Darroca said that a witness saw two unidentified persons disembark from a car and allegedly drop a sack on the bridge evening of Dec. 26.
The witness was awakened by the engine noise of an alleged brown Toyota Innova, prompting him to check through their window.
On Dec. 30, he asked his father to go with him to check the sack on the bridge, as he was bothered about it.
They then discovered one sack containing the decomposing body of a man, which they thought was garbage.
From there, police also discovered two more sacks with human skeletons which were believed to have been dumped there for more than a month now.
Darroca said the remains of the unidentified victims were immediately buried.
Darroca said that it would be helpful for the police if there’s a CCTV so that they can monitor the ingress and egress of the vehicles in the city.
He already alerted other police stations here and in the province, in case there’s a report of missing individuals in their areas of jurisdiction.
He said they have also talked to barangay officials to install lights as the area is not well-lighted.
