BACOLOD City – Netizens lauded the effort of the personnel of Pontevedra Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental for bringing a father and his daughter together after being separated for about 20 years.
Based on a Facebook post of the police station, Reyna Joy Alunan of Talisay City sent a message to them on February 22, 2021 asking for help to locate her father whom she has not seen for two decades.
Alunan was adopted by her grandmother’s sibling after her parents got separated when she was just a baby.
Alunan sent a message to the police after learning that her father Ariel Cahilig is residing in Barangay Antipolo in the town.
Through the “Pulis sa Barangay” program of the police station, Police Corporal Ronald Estoria assigned in the said village, along with the members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPATs) searched for her father and found him at Sitio Colonia, Barangay Don Salvador Benedicto on February 25.
On March 1, police officers brought Alunan to the village, where she was reunited with her father.
Tears fell as they hugged each other, a testament to how much they longed to see each other after a very long time.
Cahilig then brought Alunan to their house, where she met her other sibling from her father’s wife now.
Alunan thanked the town police force led by Police Captain Hancel Lumandaz for being instruments in reuniting with her father.
Alunan said the reunion strengthened her hope in life.
