BACOLOD City – The Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) of Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 is investigating a police officer assigned here for alleged indiscriminate firing in Barangay Alijis here yesterday.
Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 7, said the policeman, with a rank of patrolman reportedly chased a car when its driver allegedly accosted him while he was tending to his motorcycle which encountered mechanical trouble.
“Gin singgitan daw siya (policeman) pahigad paglabay ka salakyan,” Bonilla said.
This prompted the policeman to chase the car using the motorcycle of his friend who came to supposedly rescue him.
Bonilla said a family was riding in the car from the hospital to their home before the incident happened.
“Na misinterpret siguro ka police ta, gin lagas niya kag pinalukpan ka duwa,” he added.
Bonilla said the policeman was subjected to paraffin test, while his issued service firearm was confiscated.
As this developed, Bonilla said the complainant did not press any criminal charges against the policeman, following their settlement on Tuesday afternoon.
However, Bonilla said the policeman was disarmed, and will be restricted at Police Station 9, where he was assigned, pending the result of the motu proprio investigation for his administrative liability.
Bonilla said the policeman was on New Year’s break and was not under the influence of liquor when it happened.
He was released from police custody on Tuesday night after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
