BACOLOD CITY – A 41-year-old man was shot by police after he attempted to set fire to a fuel pump at a gas station in Barangay Sto. Rosario, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Friday.
A 25-year-old station manager called police to report an alleged malicious mischief incident at the establishment.
Responding officers found the suspect reportedly armed with a bolo.
Despite police presence, the suspect allegedly hacked one of the pump meters.
Authorities issued verbal warnings and tried to negotiate with him to surrender.
Instead, he reportedly lit a piece of cloth and ignited the fuel pump.
Police then shot the man in the left leg to stop him.
He was taken to the town’s infirmary for medical treatment.
As of press time, police have not released further details on the motive behind the incident.
