According to a police report, Police Corporal Jaime Nuñez was killed in action while two other officers, whose names have yet to be revealed, were slightly wounded.
An ambush was initially reported, but it was found out that police officers figured in an armed encounter with the NPA.
Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of Negros Occidental police, said that personnel of CMPS, other police units, and soldiers were supposed to serve an arrest warrant against alleged NPA rebels in the village when the encounter happened at Sitio Icogon around 9:40 a.m.
No other details were provided as of this press time, while investigation is ongoing.
Nuñez’s live-in partner told Aksyon Radyo Bacolod that they were planning to get married in December.
She said that she received numerous calls from her friends and family, but it took her a while to confirm the incident by checking the news.
“Ka buot gid na sa iya. Pirmi gid na siya ga update kung mag lakat siya. Indi ko kapati nga isa siya gali sa nakaupod didto,” she added.
