BACOLOD City A police officer was injured by his own firearm after a brief encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) member in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Feb 8, 2019.
A report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office identified the injured cop as Police Officer 3 Shaun Francis Nelmida who was wounded by a minor blast from his rifle.
The report said that members of the 605th Mobile Company under the PNP Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 encountered suspected rebels at Sitio Kalipas, Brgy. Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto at around 1 a.m.
The clash lasted for 5 minutes after the rebels withdrew to the northeast direction of the village.
