Cop in hot water for firing  gun to silence ‘nagging’ wife

His wife’s nagging was apparently too much for a policeman to handle that he had to indiscriminately fire his gun.

In the end, Staff Sergeant Jey Neal Borja got what he wanted. And more.

Borja, 35, a member of Anilao Police Station, is now under investigation for his actions.

Captain Dadje Delima, Calinog police chief, said the incident happened around 7:45 p.m. of September 27 at the Borja couple’s house in Barangay Libot, Calinog, Iloilo.

Delima said he received a text message claiming that they heard gunfire at Borja’s house.

When police officers arrived, Borja’s wife went out to meet them.

“She told us that her husband was already asleep. We can’t possibly arrest him for illegal discharge of firearm because we have no direct witness that he was the one who did it. We have not also recovered any evidence when we arrived,” Delima said.

The following morning, Delima went back to Borja’s residence.

Borja admitted firing his gun because he had too much of his wife’s talking. He also admitted that he was drunk during the incident.

His wife had been accusing him of having an illicit affair.

“Natak-an sya kuno sa sungad ni Misis niya (He was fed up with his wife’s mouth),” Borja said.

Borja said he repeatedly fired his gun while inside their house.

Delima said he immediately informed Borja’s immediate superior, Anilao police chief Lieutenant Jersey Besas, about what happened.

Meanwhile, Besas said he already placed Borja under restrictive custody. He was also made to surrender his firearms – a pistol and a rifle.

It was gathered that Borja, who hails from Janiuay town, has been staying at their home in Calinog to finish his quarantine period. He was supposed to return for work on Tuesday, September 28.

But because of what happened, he must submit first an affidavit in response to the complaint for illegal discharge of firearm against him.

Besas said they also sent an investigator to Calinog to probe what happened.

If investigators would find lapses on Borja’s side, Besas said they would pursue administrative charges against him.
