BACOLOD City – A police officer was injured in an ambush at Camelot, Barangay Estefania here Sunday.
Police identified the victim as Police Staff Sergeant Miguel Perez, 43, of the said village. He is assigned to the legal service of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) headquarters here.
Police Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 4, said Perez was driving a Toyota Wigo on his way home when unidentified armed men ambushed him in a secluded area of the village past 10 a.m.
Gever said more than two gunmen positioned themselves behind the bushes and fired at the victim’s vehicle.
Perez suffered a gunshot wound on his left shoulder.
Gever said that Perez’s vehicle was riddled with bullets from an M16 rifle.
“It was probably well-planned because the attackers knew his route during that time of the day,” he added.
Gever said they are eyeing job-related and grudge as possible angles behind the attack.
He said that the victim had not revealed any threats against him before the incident.
