Cop, companion arrested for gun-running in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – A police officer and his companion were arrested Wednesday in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, for alleged involvement in the illegal firearms trade.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Negros Island Region (CIDG-NIR) apprehended a 31-year-old patrolman assigned to the Cebu City Mobile Force Company, along with a 31-year-old civilian, both residents of Barangay Robles.
Authorities seized a KG-9 submachine pistol, a magazine loaded with 10 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, a 9mm GERSAN pistol issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP), another magazine with five live rounds, a holster, a sedan, and PHP 1,000 in marked money.
They also recovered PHP 22,900 in boodle money used during the sting operation.

The operation was part of CIDG-NIR’s intensified campaign against loose firearms under “Oplan Paglalansag Omega.”
As of this writing, no further information has been released.
Authorities are preparing to file appropriate charges against the two suspects.
