Police have filed a murder case against a construction worker accused of killing a policeman in Oton, Iloilo.
Lieutenant Colonel Abner Jordan, Oton police chief, confirmed that a murder complaint was filed on Thursday against 40-year-old Dan Garferio before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Garferio, a resident of Barangay Sinibaan, Dingle, allegedly stabbed Staff Sergeant Erwin Calubayan, 40, a member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 6.
Calubayan, a resident of Barangay Balabag, Dumangas, died from a single stab wound to the stomach.
The officer managed to retaliate and shoot Garferio before succumbing to his injuries.
Garferio is currently under hospital arrest but is in stable condition, Jordan said.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight on December 16 while the two were drinking liquor at a store in Barangay Pakiad, Oton.
Reports suggested that both men were romantically pursuing the store owner, but Jordan denied this, stating that the altercation was triggered by intoxication.
