Construction of livelihood center in Iloilo village starts

Local officials of Tubungan, Iloilo and representatives of national government agencies led the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a P1 million worth livelihood center in Boloc village.

“The construction of Boloc Livelihood Center will help ensure sustainability of agricultural production in the village,” said Emelyn Estando-Tano, Head of Public Employment Service Office -Tubungan.

Boloc has been identified as one of the beneficiaries of a project for sustainable production of agricultural products in the province of Iloilo.

Tano said the groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by Mayor Roquito Tacsagon, Punong Barangay Alejo Capio and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Iloilo (TESDA Iloilo) Director Noemely DG Dolar was part of the Serbisyo Caravan (caravan of services) held in the village on April 8.

Serbisyo Caravan is one of the initiatives of the local government unit of Tubungan under Project “BINHI SA BARANGAY” (Bringing Initiatives and Noble services to Household and Individuals for Support and Action in BARANGAY) aimed at prioritizing the delivery of basic services and social development by bringing the government services closer to the people in order to assess their needs for prior and adequate actions and solutions.

Project BINHI SA BARANGAY is implemented in collaboration with TESDA-Iloilo, lead agency of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, to ensure the delivery of better services for communities as part of the strengthened efforts of the government to promote sustainable and inclusive peace particularly in insurgency affected villages.

“Project BINHI is the hope being planted in barangays which serves as a reminder that TUBONG-TUBONG spirit still shines through and will keep growing with the efforts of the government and the Tubunganons towards a peaceful and developed community,” Tano said.

A gift-giving activity sponsored by the Tubungan Employees Development Cooperative (TEDCO) was also conducted during the Serbisyo Caravan where Vitamin C, medicines, slippers, toys and educational materials were distributed to residents.

Other activities conducted through the assistance of local agencies and 61st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army include Stress Management for Children & Psychosocial Activity, Medical Consultation and Dental Services, Circumcision, Vitamins Supplementation, Vaccination & Deworming for Livestock Insurance and Free Haircut.

TESDA also provided updates on its various skills trainings such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Masonry, and Carpentry. (PIA)
