Confiscated firecrackers in Capiz destroyed

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Caches of illegal firecrackers were destroyed Saturday morning, Jan. 7, 2023 at Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO).

The disposal of some 1,000 unlabeled firecrackers and 282 “boga” or improvised cannon was led by Police Colonel Jerome Afuyog Jr., Capiz police director.

Police reports indicated that Tapaz has the most number of confiscated boga with 33. It was followed by Pontevedra (21), Panitan (20), Maayon (16), Dumalag (15), Panay and President Roxas (14 each),  Ivisan, Jamindan, Dao (13 each), Roxas City (12), Sapian and Dumarao (11 each),  Sigma, Mambusao, Cuartero (9 each), and Pilar (6).

The 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) confiscated 38 pieces of boga while the 2nd PMFC seized 5.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded 15 fireworks-related injuries in the recent holiday season.

Three injuries were reported in Tapaz, two each in lvisan, Panay, Panitan, Roxas City, and one each in Jamindan, Mambusao, Pontevedra, and Sigma.

Based on PHO report, firecracker-related incidents rose by 7 percent compared to 2022 with 14 injuries.

One person was injured after a firecracker exploded in his hand while two suffered eye injuries and 12 others got bruises.
