A rugged trail once closed to vehicles has been transformed into a concrete road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), connecting Barangay San Martin in Dumalag to Sitio Madaragdag in Barangay San Jose, Jamindan, Capiz.
The DPWH Capiz 2nd District Engineering Office implemented the PHP 48.9-million road concreting project, allowing four-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles to pass through with ease, improving daily mobility and access between the two towns.
The newly constructed road features a concrete slab, slope protection, open-type line ditch canals, and guardrails.
These upgrades help prevent erosion and reduce hazards such as loose gravel and mudslides, making travel safer and more reliable.
According to OIC-District Engineer Gerardo G. Parra Jr., the trail was previously impassable to vehicles, cutting off deliveries, emergency response, and economic activity.
“This concrete road opens up new possibilities for the people of Dumalag and Jamindan,” Parra said.
“It improves access to schools, health services, and trade routes, while also making it easier for emergency vehicles to reach remote areas.”
Parra added that the route has also revealed a hidden waterfall near Sitio Madaragdag, sparking interest in eco-tourism and creating new livelihood opportunities for the community.
Likewise, OIC-Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto said the improved road now provides students from Jamindan smoother access to schools in neighboring Dumalag, shortens travel time, and supports the daily movement of residents.
“With better access and safer travel, the road is expected to support local growth and improve the quality of life across the upland barangays,” Fruto said. (DPWH)
