The new concrete footbridge in Barangay Camandag in Leon, Iloilo now provides residents uninterrupted access even during heavy rains.
The Department of Public Works and Highways Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office completed the PHP 4.925 million footbridge funded under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act.
District Engineer Mario G. Soriano said the bridge not only connects people but also improves access to basic services and economic opportunities.
“This foot bridge will ensure that residents can safely cross from one area to another at all time. This will also provide easier access in transporting agricultural products from farms to the market,” Soriano said.
“This will also provide a better view of the waterfall in the area; hence, could encourage more foreign and local tourists, thereby improving local tourism and providing more economic opportunities,” Soriano added.
The footbridge will also help ensure that basic government services reach remote and far-flung communities.
“Footbridge can boost local economy by providing easier access to commercial areas, parks, and cultural attractions,” Soriano explained.
“Increased foot traffic can stimulate business growth and create opportunities for entrepreneurs,” he said.
Background: DPWH district engineering offices implement national road, bridge, and flood-control projects funded under the General Appropriations Act to improve mobility, support local economies, and enhance disaster resilience.
