Concrete Farm-to-Market Road Boosts Transport and Tourism in Antique Town

To enhance local agriculture and tourism in Antique province, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a farm-to-market road (FMR) in Barangay Pucio Point, Libertad.

The project, implemented by the DPWH Antique District Engineering Office, involved the concreting of a 1.92-lane kilometer road with a total cost of PHP19.7 million.

DPWH said the initiative supports both agriculture and tourism, while improving access and infrastructure in the barangay.

“The concreted road eases the transportation of agricultural products and attracts tourists to our beautiful seaside, significantly contributing to the local economy,” said Regional Director Nerie Bueno Oropel.

The improved road has sped up the delivery of farm goods to the barangay’s commercial center, reducing travel time for farmers and traders.

Additionally, the development has drawn more visitors to the coastal area, boosting revenue for local businesses and the barangay.

“The enhanced drainage and slope protection ensure that our infrastructure is more resilient and sustainable, benefiting residents and visitors,” Oropel added.

The local government unit has also enhanced the seaside area to accommodate growing foot traffic, making it a rising destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.

The increased tourist visits have created more economic opportunities for the community, aligning with broader goals of rural development.

The completion of the project underscores the DPWH’s commitment to delivering sustainable, community-driven infrastructure in Antique.
