Compton resigns as Alaska Aces head coach

After a five-year run as Alaska head coach, Alex Compton will no longer call the shots for the Aces.

Fred Uytengsu, the Alaska team owner, asked Compton to step down and leave the head coaching position which Compton whole-heartedly accepted and respected.

In a statement released to the media, Compton said “I accepted his direction and have agreed to resign as head coach of the Alaska Aces. It has been an honor for me to coach such a storied franchise.”

Compton handled 15 conferences for the Aces and brought them to the finals five times but fell short of the championship.

Another Alaska legend, Jeff Cariaso will replace Compton.

Uytengsu also had a message for incoming head coach Cariaso: “He has the full trust of management and we trust the team will likewise work hard to support him.We also hope Jeff will become the first Alaska player to win championships both as a player and as a head coach.”
