The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Iloilo City Office will hold a voter education roadshow on December 2 at the Iloilo City National High School library, starting at 9 a.m.
The initiative aims to improve voter awareness and demonstrate the use of new vote-counting machines for the 2025 midterm elections.
Jonathan Sayno, Election Assistant II, underscored the roadshow’s significance in enhancing public understanding of the electoral process.
“This activity allows us to educate the public on the voting process and introduce the latest technology that will be used in the elections. We want to ensure transparency and efficiency in the voting process,” Sayno said.
The event will feature a mock election involving 15 participants who will test the vote-counting machines.
Sayno explained that this simulation aims to identify and address potential issues ahead of the official elections.
The roadshow is part of a series of activities spanning various districts, with Molo district being the first stop.
The campaign is expected to wrap up by January 2025.
In addition, COMELEC reminded political aspirants to register their official social media accounts by December 13.
“This requirement ensures that the social media activities of candidates are monitored for compliance with electoral laws,” Sayno explained.
Unregistered accounts will prompt the issuance of a show-cause order to candidates.
If no explanation is provided, those accounts will be taken down, and failure to comply could result in disqualification, he warned.
The regulation reflects COMELEC’s efforts to adapt to the digital landscape, particularly in mitigating the misuse of social media during campaigns.
Candidates are advised to complete their registration promptly to avoid complications.
