BACOLOD CITY – A college teacher and a senior citizen were killed in separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on July 27 and 29.
In La Carlota City, 29-year-old “Anthony,” a teacher at La Carlota City College, died while his companion was injured after their motorcycle crashed into a parked truck at Hacienda Ariba, Barangay San Miguel, early Tuesday.
The injured back rider was identified as “Edwin,” 29, also a resident of Barangay San Miguel.
According to the police investigation, the victims were traveling to Barangay San Miguel around 4 a.m. when Anthony’s motorcycle hit the truck.
Both men fell to the ground and sustained injuries.
Anthony was declared dead at the hospital.
The incident was reported to the police about 30 minutes later.
Meanwhile, a 75-year-old woman died after being hit by a truck on her way home in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, on Sunday.
Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the woman allegedly crossed the road without noticing the approaching truck heading to Cauayan town.
Indiape said the driver tried to avoid hitting her but failed.
The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.
An initial settlement was reached between both parties, and the 48-year-old truck driver was released from police custody on Monday.
On Saturday, a 17-year-old student also died in a motorcycle collision in Barangay 2, Kabankalan City.
Indiape said the victim was heading home to Ilog town after a gathering with friends when he collided with another motorcycle driven by his 15-year-old relative, a resident of Kabankalan City.
The 17-year-old was declared dead at the hospital.
The 15-year-old, accompanied by his parents, surrendered to police later that day.
Indiape said both parties had reached a settlement.
