College sports take on the challenge for resumption of practice sessions

After six months of waiting, collegiate sports is finally nearing its return.

However, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) together with the different collegiate sports organizations will have to work hand-in-hand thoroughly to make this a reality.

CHED chairman Prospero De Vera bared one factor that will be one of the biggest difficulties they will face towards making it happen.

As they are already building the technical core group that will be in-charge of creating the guidelines for the resumption of the student-athletes practice, chairman De Vera is already addressing the possible reasons for delay.

“Ang challenge dito actually is marami kasi ‘yung leagues. I was told that there were many Manila-based leagues and many provincial leagues that have been organized over the past years. I have a list but it’s rather long,” shared De Vera.

With the numerous college leagues around the Metro, De Vera’s concern is how to uniformly create the guidelines that will fit for all the leagues.

Among the collegiate leagues that are under it are the UAAP, the NCAA, and one of the premier provincial leagues, the CESAFI.

“We have to start with the smaller group, a working group, and then later on as these were crafted, then we will cascade this to the other leagues all over the country,” De Vera added.

To help sort things out easier, CHED has requested the help of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), and the Department of Health (DOH).
