A Coastal Clean-up and Mangrove Planting completed the month-long activities designed by the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) in celebration of the 32nd National Statistics Month in the province of Guimaras.
“The coastal clean-up and mangrove planting were completed on October 30, 2021, at the Canhawan, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras,” as part of the 32nd NSM celebration and of the PSC members’ social responsibility,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
300 mangrove seedlings provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Guimaras were planted in the Canhawan mangrove area.

Guimaras PSC members including Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras, Provincial Planning Development Office (PPDO), Provincial Tourism Office (PTO), Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO), Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources Office (GENRO), and Provincial Economic and Development Office (PEDO) and some of the Officials of Brgy. Canhawan joined the activities.
“Through these activities, may we be able to help bring awareness to the Guimarasnons on the importance of preserving the Coastal Areas in Guimaras, because we believe that through planting of mangroves and cleaning the shoreline areas will surely preserve the ecosystem and habitats in the coastal area,” Losare said.

Losare also said that the activities was in line with the local government’s continuing expansion and rehabilitation of mangrove forests in the area.
“We also appreciated the participation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from Nueva Valencia and also the Brgy. Captain of Canhawan”, Losare said.
“The PSC agreed that Canhawan will be the area of the annual mangrove planting and coastal clean-up of PSC to monitor the survival rate of the mangroves planted,” Losare added.
