CLMMRH logs 13 firecracker-related injuries

BACOLOD City – The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here has recorded 13 cases of firecracker-related injuries, as of 12 p.m. yesterday.

John Michael Gabriel Zaragoza, public information officer of CLMMRH, said that eight of these victims were from Bacolod, while five others were from various areas in Negros Occidental. The victims were 12 male and one female, he added.

Zaragoza said that four victims suffered eye injuries, and nine had hand injuries, wherein two of which suffered mangled or damaged hands.

Most of the cases were active users of firecrackers or those who were really using the firecrackers, while others were passive victims who were bystanders or were just hit by a spark from the firecrackers, he said.

Zaragoza said that their injuries came from firecrackers such as kwitis, kamara, candle bomb, whistle bomb, triangulo, and five-star.

Following this development, Zaragoza is appealing to the public to be careful, as they will continue to monitor firecracker-related incidents until January 6.

He suggested extinguishing then disposing of undetonated firecrackers.

“Gapangabay kita na indi sagay pulot kung ano man makita sa palibot. Bas-on ini kag ihaboy, indi na pag gamiton,” Zaragoza said.

Zaragoza said they are continuously educating people in terms of the risks of the firecrackers.

Meanwhile, the City Health Office (CHO) has recorded five victims of firecracker-related incidents here from December 21 to January 1.

However, Zaragoza said they have a separate record from the CHO regarding these cases.

On the other hand, police seized abandoned firecrackers amounting to P7,000 in Barangay Mambulac, Silay City, on December 31.

Confiscated were a pack of kwitis, four pieces Blow G, six packs of big candle, two pieces of whistle bomb, and 30 pieces of triangulo.
