A man on the police drugs watchlist was arrested evening of Jan 28, 2023 in La Paz, Iloilo City.
But Alfonso Lim, 45, of Barangay Bito-on, Jaro, was collared for alleged gunrunning by the Iloilo City Police Office-City Intelligence Unit (ICPO-CIU) and the Iloilo City Police Station 2 in an entrapment operation at Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz.
He allegedly sold a homemade caliber .38 revolver to a police poseur buyer for P2,500.
Following his arrest, Lim yielded the marked money, an Android phone, and a black sling bag containing an M26 hand grenade.
Lieutenant Colonel Albert Sy, ICPO-CIU chief, said the suspect was silent on his possession of an explosive.
But as to the handgun, Lim claimed that it was pawned to him by a friend and he later decided to sell it.
Sy said the suspect was previously arrested for a drug offense. He was released from incarceration in 2018.
Lim had no stable job and would sometimes ply a pedicab to earn a living.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged for violations of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and RA 9516 (Unlawful Manufacture, Sales, Acquisition, Disposition, Importation or Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Device).
