HUNDREDS of police officers and gun sport enthusiasts are seeing action in the 1st CD’s Cup held at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Firing Range at Camp Martin Delgado, Iloilo City.
The four-day shootfest started Aug. 28 and will end on Sept. 1.
Organized by the Iloilo City Police Office, the competition aimed to generate funds for the proposed Child Welfare Recreation Park within the ICPO Headquarters.
“We want to promote a more child-friendly ICPO by providing an outdoor play area,” said Police Captain Shella Mae Sangrines when asked about the recreation park project.
It shall be constructed in front of the ICPO Women and Children’s Protection Desk building.
“It won’t be exclusive to WCPD clients but to other ICPO visitors who could be transacting business or applying for permits,” she said.
Even children visitors of the nearby Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – district jail could also avail of the facility.
It was gathered that all ICPO uniformed personnel were required to participate and will just pay a minimal fee of P200.
Scores of civilian gun owners are expected to join in the 1st CD’s Cup.
It won’t be for a noble cause alone, Sangrines said the activity was also initiated to promote responsible gun-ownership and train policemen on gun safety, handling and shooting proficiency.
The shootfest was also done in partnership with the Iloilo City Police Office Advisory Council for Transformation and Development (ICAC-PTD) headed by its chairman, Nelson Uygongco.
Police Colonel Martin Defensor Jr., Iloilo City police chief, and Police Colonel Roy Parena led the ceremonial shoot to signal the start of the event.
The competition is composed of five exciting courses of fire and sanctioned as Level 1 by the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA).
