With an aggressive offseason buildup, Cignal is ready to contend for the PVL On Tour title as the HD Spikers aim to rebound from a disappointing All-Filipino Conference.
Despite finishing third in the preliminaries, the team’s season fell apart after two key players exited mid-tournament, leading to a stunning quarterfinal loss to Galeries Tower and triggering a full team reassessment.
Armed with a revamped lineup, a fresh sense of purpose, and the guidance of veteran coach Shaq Delos Santos, the HD Spikers enter the preseason as serious contenders.
That revamped roster will be tested early as they kick off their PVL On Tour campaign Sunday, June 22, at Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
Cignal’s offseason was marked by deliberate, high-impact moves to create a balanced, playoff-ready squad.
Core players Vanie Gandler and Ishie Lalongisip committed to long-term deals, signaling the team’s vision for sustained success.
The HD Spikers then boosted their firepower by acquiring rising opposite spiker Erika Santos, expected to be a key offensive asset.
Cignal further deepened its bench with veterans Tine Tiamzon, Ethan Arce and Heather Guino-o, all bringing experience and resilience.
Delos Santos said this rebuild is intentional and energizing for the coaching staff.
“Mas excited kami magturo this time kasi ‘yung mga ina-eye namin na players, nakuha namin,” he said.
“We’re confident in their potential and how they fit into the system we’re building.”
The team also tapped into the PVL Draft to secure long-term depth.
They selected Erin Pangilinan, a standout middle blocker from National University, in the first round.
In the second round, they picked Jessa Ordiales of De La Salle, known for her quick attacks and strong net presence.
Though both are natural middle blockers, Delos Santos sees them as flexible players who can fill multiple roles.
“Sobrang happy kami kasi sila talaga ‘yung target namin. Some may think there’s redundancy, but they’re capable of switching roles,” he said.
Undrafted libero Pearl Denura also earned a roster spot after impressing in tryouts and scrimmages.
Beyond individual talent, the team focused on system integration, player growth and chemistry—key traits of a championship contender.
“Rest assured, we’re going to help all our new players grow in every aspect—on and off the court,” said Delos Santos.
“With the depth and versatility we’ve built, we now have the pieces to compete with the best.”
Cignal begins its PVL On Tour stint with back-to-back matches against Akari Chargers on Sunday and Capital1 Solar Spikers on Monday, both at 4 p.m.
These aren’t just tune-up games—they’re early tests for a squad now aiming higher.
For the HD Spikers, it’s not just about playing anymore—it’s about winning.
