Chris Paul set to join the San Antonio Spurs after being waived by Golden State

Veteran floor general Chris Paul is looking to sign a deal with the San Antonio Spurs after the Golden State Warriors waived him off his contract on July 1, 2024.

According to ESPN’s veteran NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul’s initial contract with San Antonio is a one-year deal summing up to $11 million.

Paving off for the deal to happen was Golden State’s decision to waive Paul which would have guaranteed his running contract up to $30 million next season.

Per multiple reports, Golden State tried their best to find potential landing franchises for Paul but San Antonio became the top choice for the star point guard.

Paul’s backcourt duo experiment with Golden State’s Stephen Curry failed to meet expectations after the Warriors didn’t make this season’s NBA Playoffs.

Aside from his diminished role with the Warriors system, Paul also suffered multiple injuries that forced him to sit out several crucial games during their fight for a sure slot in the Western Conference post-season campaign.

Paul only managed to suit up for Golden State in 58 total games and averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game.

During his past years, Paul had a history of making young teams better, proof is helping the Oklahoma City Thunder improve their win-loss record during the 2019-2020 NBA season.

Aside from his stint with the Thunder, Paul also instantly made the Phoenix Suns a contender when he played for the franchise from 2020-2023.

Despite being new to the system designed by former Phoenix head coach Monty Williams, Paul helped the squad make the NBA Finals during the 2021 season but failed to claim the trophy when they lost to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Now that Paul is nearing his 20^th season in the NBA, his scoring numbers through the years took a hit but is still an efficient facilitator.

With the addition of Paul in the rebuilding San Antonio franchise, expect Victor Wembanyama and the rest of the crew to be slamming down more lobs.
