The resignation of head coach Aldin Ayo left a deep void in the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers squad heading into the next UAAP season.
With the search for the next coaching staff for the Growling Tigers still ongoing, a brave individual presented himself and sent a letter of intent with his desire to call the shots for the controversial basketball team following the Sorsogon practice bubble incident.
A former PBA head coach and one of the most respected in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), coach Chris Gavina said that he is ready to give his 100 % commitment and effort if ever he is chosen as the new head tactician of the yellow and white.
Gavina first made waves after steering the PBA team KIA to its first-ever playoffs appearance in 2016.
Having already made a name in the coaching scene, Gavina was sought after by numerous MPBL teams and ultimately chose to coach the Valenzuela Classic where the young and emerging coach helped them garner a final four finish in the Raja Cup.
Gavina will be vying against Siot Tanquigcen, Estong Ballesteros, Chris Cantonjos, Gilbert Lao, and Ed Cordero who also applied for the UST coaching position.
