BACOLOD City – The City Health Office here on Wednesday declared a cholera outbreak in Barangay Alijis following the confirmed cases in the area.
City Health Officer, Dr. Maria Carmela Gensoli said in an advisory Wednesday that “an increasing cases of cholera has been reported in Barangay Alijis, that is causing alarm and apprehension to the residents of the barangay, the most recent of which is 3 cases.”
Cholera is caused by ingesting water or food that has been contaminated by cholera bacterium causing the infected person to suffer from severe diarrhea and vomiting.
Gensoli said the cholera cases in the city totaled to 13, including those in Alijis.
Meanwhile Negros Occidental Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang said there are currently 17 cholera cases in the province.
