ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 34-year-old charcoal burner was shot dead Tuesday evening at Sitio Sibunag Ilawod in Brgy. Mianay, Sigma, Capiz.
Police Lt. Jason Rey Gimeno, Sigma police chief, identified the victim Junel Vallente of said place.
Gimeno said they have a person of interest in the case but he declined to give a name.
Police are eyeing love triangle as a motive behind the incident.
Citing Vallente’s family, Gimeno said the suspect was a cousin of the victim.
The cousin accused Vallente of having an affair with the former’s wife.
The victim succumbed to a gunshot wound at the back allegedly from a 12-guage shotgun.
According to Juanito Vallente, his son went home around 9 pm after a drinking binge. They later heard gunfire at around 9:30 pm.
The family, however, ignored the blast thinking that falling santol fruits caused the noise.
They later found the victim’s body Wednesday morning.
