BACOLOD City – Amid the hesitancy and fears of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine, a 100-year-old resident here set a brave example after she received her first dose of the AstraZeneca jab.
Lilia Siason-Agsam, a mother to 13 children, was inoculated against COVID-19 last week, as she considered the vaccine a layer of protection to her life.
She was vaccinated along with her 62-year-old daughter, who was a former nurse.
Agsam said that she has not experienced any side effects after receiving the COVID shot, adding that she even had a good night’s sleep.
“Gusto ta man magsadya-sadya, depensa ini sa aton kabuhi,” she said.
She said that her secret to a longer life is her faith in God and her healthy lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the centenarian is an example of a good citizen of Bacolod, adding that her motive and purpose is very laudable.
Her action is one of the highlights of the COVID-19 vaccination here, Leonardia said, adding that she just proved to everyone that the vaccine is safe.
“At the age of 100, in the spirit of citizenship and patriotism, she has been a perfect example,” he said.
Leonardia, who also received his first dose of AstraZeneca jab last month, believed that the vaccine is the only way for now to protect ourselves from the virus.
He continues to appeal to Bacolodnons to register online so that when the volume of AstraZeneca vaccines arrive, it will be easy for residents to receive the vaccine.
“Herd immunity is a road to normalcy at the fastest possible time,” he added.
As of May 24, 32,492 residents here have already received their first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
