In celebration of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Cadiz City and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office of the local government unit led a coastal cleanup, mangrove planting, and Ecotalk on July 25, 2025, at the local conservation area in Barangay Daga, Cadiz City.
The activity was spearheaded by Forester Remia Buaron, chief of the Conservation and Development Section of CENRO Cadiz, along with local conservation area manager and head of the Ecosystem and Environment Resources Division, Joseph Marc B. Caceres, on behalf of City ENRO Head Engr. Florentino Caceres Jr.
The event engaged 120 participants from various local sectors, including barangay officials, women’s organizations, the fisherfolk community, Create Fire Volunteers, the Philippine Coast Guard–Cadiz, CVRCOM, and students from Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School.
A total of 300 mangrove propagules were planted, and more than 180 kilograms of plastic waste were collected, reinforcing community efforts in ecosystem restoration and climate resilience.
An information, education, and communication session was also conducted, highlighting the role of mangroves in protecting coastlines, supporting marine biodiversity, and reducing pollution through proper waste management.
This collaborative effort reflects the continued commitment of CENRO Cadiz, headed by Officer in Charge CENR Officer Rene G. Abordo, City ENRO, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VI to foster environmental awareness, strengthen inter-agency and community partnerships, and promote sustained action in the conservation of vital coastal resources.
