CENRO-Cadiz assists in bamboo growing activity

PARTNERS FOR CHANGE. CENRO-Cadiz City helped in the Bamboo growing activity initiated by the Tambuli Mining Company, together with Sangguniang Kabataan Officials of Brgy. Bato, Sagay City.
With the initiative of Tambuli Mining Company along with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials of Brgy. Bato, Sagay City, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through its Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) Cadiz-Enhanced National Greening Program (eNGP) personnel assisted a Bamboo growing activity near Brgy. Lopez Jaena, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on December 2, 2023.
A total of 510 culms of hardened Bambusa blumeana locally known as “Kawayan tinik” were planted in an area of 2 hectares along the stretch of Tad-ao River.
“We are happy to see that companies are being responsible in protecting the environment. While we value progress, of course it will use-up our natural resources. But the health of ecosystems must always be preserved and that everyone must take part in ensuring that those who violate laws will be held liable. We must always be reminded that our right to a healthy and clean environment must be coupled with sustainability and responsibility,” Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran said.
In addition, an information education campaign (IEC) was conducted to raise the level of awareness among youth participants about the significance of Bamboo to the environment. The knowledge sharing also included its propagation, proper growing, care, and maintenance. (DENR-6)
