The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region VI Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Edgardo M. Rostata, along with Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Rosievel I. Dimatulac of Bago City, led a site reconnaissance and coordination meeting on potential green spaces on July 17, 2025, in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
The activity included an orientation and was attended by City Environment Management (CEM) Officer Vicente D. Mesias and staff from the CEM Office.
It aimed to evaluate ecological and institutional areas that could support biodiversity within the city’s urban environment.
The initiative highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration and technical support in advancing sustainable environmental objectives.
The team successfully identified 10 areas with potential for conservation or enhancement, laying the groundwork for future data gathering, technical assessment, and urban green development planning.
“The involvement of multiple stakeholders provides a broad perspective in identifying environmental resources and possible interventions for enhancing biodiversity in the city,” said DENR Region VI Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla.
“The outcome of this activity, which integrates sustainability into urban development, contributes significantly to the enhancement of Bago City’s Urban Biodiversity Index and other related conservation efforts,” he added.
