BACOLOD CITY – Operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) seized PHP 408,000 worth of suspected shabu from a repeat drug offender and his companion in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Mandalagan here on Thursday.
Apprehended were “Doydoy,” 38, of Barangay Mandalagan, and “Choco,” 34, of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
Police Lt. Richard Legada, assistant CDEU head, said Doydoy was classified as a high-value individual, although he was not listed on the barangay drug watchlist, and had been arrested twice in Himamaylan City for drug offenses in 2015 and 2019.
He added that Choco was tagged as a street-level individual and was a first-time drug offender.
Confiscated from both suspects were 60 grams of suspected shabu and PHP 1,000 in marked money.
The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) said a four-week casing and surveillance operation was conducted after receiving information that Doydoy was allegedly delivering the contraband in the area.
The suspects are detained at Police Station 3 pending the filing of drug charges.
PRO-NIR assured the public of its intensified campaign against illegal drugs, saying it remains relentless in its pursuit to eradicate them throughout the region.
“The goal is to transform NIR into a safer, more secure, and thriving community for all its residents,” the regional office said in a statement.
Construction worker nabbed for molestation rap
Police also arrested a 37-year-old construction worker wanted for allegedly molesting his minor cousin on two separate occasions in Barangay Rizal, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday.
An arrest warrant for two counts of rape and two counts of acts of lasciviousness in relation to Section 5 of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, was served against the suspect.
The warrant, with no bail recommended, was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 73 in Sagay City, police said.
The suspect was tagged as the sixth most wanted person in the Negros Island Region.
In a statement, PRO-NIR said the arrest serves as a clear and powerful message that lawbreakers have no refuge in Negros Island.
The police force reiterated its mission to combat criminality, uphold peace and order, eliminate illegal drugs, and create a safe environment that supports sustainable development.
PRO-NIR also urged the public to remain vigilant and actively support law enforcement by reporting any suspicious or unlawful activities in their communities.
