ROXAS CITY, Capiz — The Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed winners of the 2025 midterm elections in Capiz on Tuesday, May 13.
Gov. Fredenil H. Castro secured reelection with a landslide 301,613 votes, defeating former Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras and Cristopher Barrio.
Vice Gov. James Mitang Magbanua also won reelection, defeating former board member Eleuper “Bulilit” Martinez.
2nd District Rep. Jane Tan-Castro ran unopposed and retained her seat with 125,244 votes.
In the 1st District congressional race, PINUNO party list Rep. Howard Guintu defeated Paolo Roxas, great-grandson of former President Manuel Roxas.
Unofficial results with 97% of votes counted showed Guintu with 130,531 votes to Roxas’ 108,240.
Roxas led in Roxas City and Panit-an, while Guintu dominated Pontevedra, Pilar, Panay, Maayon and President Roxas.
Guintu, a graduate of the University of San Francisco, is the former president of Golden Home Realty Development Inc.
Roxas graduated with an economics degree from Yale University in 2017 and had the support of the local political group One Capiz.
Elections Peaceful, PNP Sauys
The May 12 midterm elections in Capiz were generally peaceful, according to the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO).
Police Lt. Merry Cris Dela Cruz, CPPO spokesperson, said no major incidents occurred during the election period, which began in January.
Dela Cruz reported 16 gun ban violators and 18 confiscated firearms, with all suspects now facing charges.
She said 1,327 police personnel were deployed across the province to ensure orderly elections.
The CPPO thanked partners from the Philippine Army, Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Philippine Coast Guard and force multipliers for their assistance in maintaining peace and order.
