The Police Regional Office 6 clarified that it has already taken legal and administrative action against a police officer caught on video brandishing a firearm while scolding a motorist in Pandan, Antique.
The incident happened on July 14, 2024, in front of a convenience store, but the video resurfaced only recently after it was posted by an Antique-based Facebook page.
Facebook user Ronald Cahilig reportedly submitted the footage, which accompanied a public appeal addressed to Senator Raffy Tulfo questioning the perceived inaction on the case.
“Hihingi po sana ako ng tulong tungkol sa kaso ko sa isang police na hanggang ngayon hindi pa umuusad kasi wala akong sariling abogado, prosecutor lang ang humahawak sa akin at parang kakampi pa nila,” the complainant wrote.
He said he feared for his and his family’s safety, noting that pursuing a case against a police officer felt dangerous and daunting.
“Kahit may hawak na akong malinaw na ebidensiya, parang malabo pa ring manalo ang aking kaso dahil wala akong pambayad ng sariling abogado,” the post added.
Contrary to the claims, PRO-6 said it has acted on the matter and imposed disciplinary and legal measures against the officer involved.
The officer was relieved from duty at the Pandan Municipal Police Station and reassigned to the Aklan Police Provincial Office.
An administrative case was filed and, after due process, the officer was found liable for less grave misconduct.
He was suspended and his salary, bonuses, and allowances were forfeited during the penalty period.
In addition, criminal charges for grave threats and alarm and scandal were filed, with the grave threats case now pending in court.
PRO-6 said it thoroughly reviewed the matter under the leadership of Regional Director Police Brig. Gen. Josefineo D. Ligan.
The agency said preventive measures have been implemented to ensure accountability and avoid similar incidents.
“As your regional director, I want to express my deep commitment to the people of Western Visayas,” Ligan said.
“We are steadfast in our stance that any act of misconduct by our personnel will never be tolerated, and such matters will be addressed thoroughly and justly.”
He reaffirmed PRO-6’s commitment to uphold the highest standards of discipline, condemn wrongdoing, and stay true to its duty to serve and protect.
“We will remain the Kasaligan, Kaapin, at Kaagapay of the people of Western Visayas,” he said.
