CAS-ProfEd holds 5th phase of MEd Curriculum Review and Development

The Division of Professional Education (ProfEd) under UP Visayas’ College of Arts and Sciences kicked off a three-day workshop of the MEd Curriculum Review and Development (CuReD) Phase 5 at the UPV Little Theater, Iloilo City Campus on April 19, 2022.

The face-to-face activity provided the respective clusters an opportunity to meet and revise the MEd program proposal and bring it to completion.

There were three specific activities for the review session, including the finalization of the cluster’s proposal in the OVPAA Curriculum Revision format, the writing/updating of the syllabi for new courses or those with revisions in the course descriptions and/or course outcomes, and the consolidation of the necessary appendices of the revised Master of Education program clusters.

“As leaders and teachers, we need to keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in learning, teaching, educational resources and technologies. The pandemic has forced us to embrace tomorrow’s learning today. Traditional education alone is no longer adequate to equip our students with the necessary knowledge and skills in the technology-oriented world,” said Prof. Pepito R. Fernandez Jr., ProfEd Chairperson.

“But we also know that technology is mostly an aide in learning and teaching. We should still help ensure that our humanistic connection with our students and other stakeholders is intact and that we should help ensure that vulnerable and challenged students are well supported so they can adjust well to blended learning and the proper use of the Internet and Information Technology,” he added.

Updates on the CuReD status were presented by Dr. Lovella S. Divinagracia, Project Leader, API-CuReD.

Prior to the cluster-based workshops, UPHSI Principal Prof. Alfredo B. Diaz laid down the workshop guidelines and expectations to all the participants. He also served as the facilitator during the open forum in the afternoon session.

CAS Dean Dr. Alice Joan G. Ferrer gave her message during the opening program and encouraged participants as they embark on the challenging task of completing the MEd CuReD.

“We always start with small steps, and those small steps will lead us to our destination,” Dr. Ferrer shared.

The workshop proper required the participants to finalize several key outputs, which included the completion of the OVPAA template, description of the MaEd program, implementing rules and guidelines, faculty complement, instructional delivery, list of learning resources and facilities, project enrollment, and suggested electives and cognates from each cluster to be offered to everyone.

The second session on April 20, 2022, will include the presentation of course descriptions and course outcomes map as well as cluster-based workshops.

The first part of the OBE Syllabus writing session will also be done. It will involve revisiting the outcomes map of each cluster, aligning program outcomes, indicators, course descriptions, and course outcomes, framing specific learning outcomes and learning units content, and knowledge/topics aligned to course outcomes.

Output from the following clusters will also be presented: Biology, Chemistry, ESL, Filipino, Guidance, Health and Movement Education, Math, Physics, Social Studies, Research, and Foundations of Education.

A cluster-based workshop and OBE syllabus writing part 2 will take place on the last day. Cluster members are expected to determine teaching-learning activities and assessments to implement and attain specific learning outcomes vis-a-vis course outcomes and curate learning resources. (UPV-IPO)
